If you have a weird ass disease or an interesting illness to study than johns Hopkins is your place. But if you have an ordinary maintenance-type issue then you should look for a real group of doctirs who will talk to you and help you out.
I've been waiting ovre a year for an orthopedic surgeon to look at both of my hands.
I believe I have capral tunnel in both hands but don't even have a proper diagnosis yet.
Upon my first visit, when they were not nearly as bad as they are now, the first response my family doctor had was:
DR: "Do you want surgery?"
ME: ...Uh...no, i want to find out what is wrong with my wrists first.
DR: Oh, let's see (does 2 visual tests that I saw online and have done already)
I don't see much wrong
ME: Of course not. i'm finally in a DR's office and there is no pain...until I leave.
Next visit...
DR: Do you want surgery?
ME: No, still want to find out what's wrong.
DR: Here. Here's a referal for a neurosurgeon
2 month later...and 45 minute wait in a a dr office...
Neurosurgeon: You don't want to see me, you need an Orthopedic surgeon.
ME: Great, set me up...
2 more months later...in the Orthopedic office
Receptionist: I'm sorry sir, this is the wrong referal. This is for our office on Caroline St.
ME: So what?
Recep: I'm sorry, we can't use this, you'll have to go back to your primary and request a referal for this office
2 months later...the appt has been set the fax referal has been requested well in advance and i call today to confirm the referal.
ME: What's up on the referal?
Primary receptionist: It was sent to Caroline St.
ME: My apt is Monday morn at 8am and it's Friday morn now.
Prime Rec: All referrals take 5 business days to process.
Me: 5 days to process an incorrect referral. How long does it take you to get it right?....hello?....hello?
